Yonkers Mural Contest - Due Date September 2

The Yonkers Downtown Waterfront BID in partnership with Rising Development -Yonkers, LLC and with the support of the Blue Door Artist Association is sponsoring the creation of murals in Downtown Yonkers that will be painted on the gates and wall of 36, 38 and 41 Main Street. Artists are invited to submit designs for these murals. Final selections will be decided by a panel of six judges composed of merchants in the Downtown BID and Artist members of the Blue Door Artist Association.

Murals will be painted directly onto the metal gates of 36 and 38 Main Street and onto the plywood covering of the façade of 41 Main Street, and will be on view for at least six months.

Rising Development-Yonkers, LLC has generously agreed to provide a compensation of $1,000.00 for each muralist who is selected. This payment is meant to compensate the artist for his or her time, materials and supplies.

Artists are encouraged to reflect on their vision for the future of Yonkers Downtown. Applicants are encouraged to visit the locations.

Design submissions should be e-mailed to info@yonkersdowntown.com as JPEGs, not to exceed 1 MB. Samples of other artwork done previously by applicants should also be provided via e-mail. Submissions may also be mailed to the Downtown Waterfront BID at 2 Hudson Street, Yonkers, NY 10701. Please indicate your location preference among the three sites.

Submissions shall be due by the close of business September 2, 2008. Selected artists will be announced on September 13th at this year's Yonkers' Riverfest.

All works chosen must be completed and installed by October 12, 2008.
