Lifetime Arts: The Creative Aging Teaching Artists Database

Theme: Perspective can be the point of view from which you are standing when you release the shutter, or reflect your state of mind at the time when the image is created. Are you up high, or low to the ground? Maybe you are high on life, or down in the dumps. All these perspectives can greatly influence the message and impact of your photograph. What is your Perspective?

Eligibility: The exhibition is open to all domestic and international, professional and amateur, photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both. The Center for Fine Art Photography invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and ex perimental and mixed techniques are welcome.

Call for Poetry: Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art/ Hudson Valley Writers  Center: A Form of Matter

In collaboration with the Hudson Valley Writers' Center, Sleep Hollow, affiliates of the Westchester Arts Council and stage director Mara Mills, HVCCA will present A FORM OF MATTER January 22-25, 2009 featuring six 5-10 minute short poetry performances inspired by works of art in "Origins" exhibition.

Interested poets and writers are invited to HVCCA on November 23rd at 2:00pm or November 24th at 6:00pm for a docent tour of the exhibition.

Artists are invited to submit outdoor sculptures to be featured at the Twelfth Annual Peace Arch Park International Sculpture Exhibition. Located on the U.S. Canada border. Peace Arch International Park is the Western United States? International Gateway to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

In the spirit of international goodwill of the games, the United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association (USCPAA) is pleased to announce that our Twelfth Annual Peace Arch Park International Sculpture Exhibition will open May 1st, 2009, and it will run through April 1st, 2010.

Located at the 4th busiest US/Canada border crossing, over 500,000 people visit the historic site and International Peace Park each year. A special edition full color self guided artwork and park history tour brochure will accompany the exhibit. Artists benefit from international exposure and recognition by being featured in North America's most celebrated International Peace Park.

A panel of international U.S. and Canadian art experts, association members and park management will jury the exhibition. The criterion for selecting the exhibit includes: artistic impression, quality, durability, aesthetic appeal, and park and community appropriateness. Artist Grant Opportunity: Distribution Grant for New York State Artists

Distribution Grant for New York State Artists now administered by free103point9

free103point9 is pleased to announce the 2009 Distribution Grant for New York State Artists providing support for the distribution of new works in film, video, sound, new-media, and media-installation. This grant is for completed works only. Funding is available from free103point9 through a regrant from New York State Council on the Arts' Electronic Media and Film Program. Grant awards will assist artists in making works available to public audiences and may include, but are not limited to: duplication of previews, screening, and exhibition copies of moving image and sound works; promotional materials including documentation and schematics of media-installation and new-media works. The rental or purchase of equipment for exhibition/distribution by individual artists is also eligible.

Artists may request funding support up to a maximum amount of $10,000. New to the Distribution Grant this year, successful applicants will also be awarded the additional opportunity to work with a project consultant. This mentor will have expertise in the grantees' specific genre of media art.

Call to Artists:  Philadelphia-Mid Atlantic GLBT Artists Festival

DEADLINE: January 10, 2009



The new Philadelphia-Mid Atlantic GLBT Artists Festival seeks to promote the career advancement of Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Trans Artists that are emerging, yet professional and need career development assistance and that have a desire to be showcased in a large scale regional festival. The festival is multi-disciplinary, showcasing all areas of the Performing, Creative, and Fine Arts.



The festival is a production of TAP: Traverse Arts Project, a new non-profit, 501(c)3 organization in Philadelphia. The first annual festival is scheduled for May 28-31, 2009 in Philadelphia,  and seeks to present Musical, Physical, Dramatic, Cinema, and Theater artists from PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD, DC and VA. Featured and Supportive Artists will receive compensation packages. Compensation packages will include cash stipends, partial underwriting of professional development opportunities, membership in the mainstream professional organization relative to your field of the Arts, membership in an Arts service organization that offers access to Health Care Plans, development and mailings of media kits, and other fantastic opportunities. The deadline for submissions is January 10, 2009.

Call to Artists: The Sketchbook Project

We send you the sketchbook, you make the art. Then Art House is taking all the sketchbooks on a 6 city tour to galleries and museums across the U.S. The goal of the exhibition is to encourage anyone to create artwork and build a collective of sketchbooks made by artists from all over the world. You don't have to be a professional artist to participate in the exhibition. This project is about being creative and inspiring yourself and others. We want to bring artists together and give everyone a chance to show in museums and galleries around the country!

Call for Entries: the Katonah Museum of Art: Tri-State Juried Exhibition

DEADLINE: January 16, 2009



Artists from the tri-state area are invited to submit work for the KMA's prestigious juried exhibition, held every three years.  This next exhibition, titled Contemporary Confrontations, will be juried by Nan Rosenthal, who served as Senior Consultant for Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for 15 years.  Entrants may submit up to two artworks paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, sculpture, photography, or video which have been executed since 2004.  The exhibition opens January 25 and runs through February 22, 2009.  Artists must visit the Museum's website for schedules, fees, requirements and restrictions, and to download a prospectus:  http://www.katonahmuseum.org.   Works in all media are eligible for awards:  First Prize $1000, Second Prize $750, and Third Prize $500.  The Museum is located at 134 Jay Street in Katonah.  914.232.9555.









Call to Artists: The United Hebrew Geriatric Center: Beautiful Aging

DEADLINE: January 31, 2009



The United Hebrew Geriatric Center invites New York State artists to a call for 2D submissions for a group exhibition entitled Beautiful Aging. The theme for the exhibition will salute the aging process as part of our life journey.  We believe that artist's insights will give power and add dignity to this aspect of our common humanity. Our vision is to reflect positive images of aging and older adults: inspirational, emotional, compassionate and compelling.  Intergenerational themes welcome.



The exhibition will run in conjunction with the opening of our new nursing and rehabilitation center.  It will be juried by Tracy Fitzpatrick, Neuberger Museum of Art; Jean-Paul Maitinsky of the Hudson River Museum and Lisa Robb of the Pelham Art Center.  Three prizes will be awarded.

Call to Artists: Pelham Art Center: Rutsch Award and Exhibition

DEADLINE: February 6th, 2009



Pelham Art Center is pleased to announce the 5th Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition, an open, juried competition for U.S.-based artists aged 19 or older. In 2009, the award is for painting. A $5,000 cash prize and a solo exhibition at Pelham Art Center are awarded to the winner.  Pelham Art Center is proud to sponsor the competition and award to honor the memory and artistic achievement of Alexander Rutsch (1916   1997), an artist who actively supported Pelham Art Center for more than 25 years. After his death, friends and supporters of Alexander Rutsch and his family established a generous and significant fund to support a bi-annual, open, juried competition in a range of mediums.



The Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition program continues Rutsch's belief that art transcends all of our humanity. Rutsch saw art as  the stone in the water sending ripples throughout the universe.   His extraordinary work, rich in the celebration of life and our shared human experiences, is included in many of public and private collections throughout the US and Europe.

Call to Artists: The Smithtown Township Arts Council: A Pinch and a Dash

DEADLINE: February 13


The Smithtown Township Arts Council is now accepting entries for A Pinch and a Dash, an exhibition celebrating Women's History Month March 28- April 19, 2009 at the Mills Pond House Gallery. The exhibition seeks to examine the American woman's changing role in the kitchen, from rural times when a woman's biscuits defined her reputation, to twentieth century ready-made preparation. A Pinch and a Dash calls for works that exemplify women's role in the kitchen or reveal how that role has changed to meet new challenges in American society, from providing sustenance for the family, to maintaining ethnic traditions, to natural and organic awareness. Juror: Connie Koppelman, PhD, independent curator and speaker on subjects in women's art. Open to all media. Entries must be submitted as 300 ppi jpeg files on CD only.
