Here's their latest newsletter of events....
WELCOME TO 2009!
As you enjoy the last few days of December, Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site welcomes you to 2009, and to our new year of programming. This email will provide you with a taste of the next few months, but, as ever, consult our blog for tour times, site information, and program details: www.philipsemanorhall.blogspot.com
A CREATIVE STREAK…
For those of you who enjoyed our "How to be a Curator Tour," or just like learning about museums and making art, our January 2009 event, Create Your Own Exhibit, is likely to please. This program will teach you all about how exhibits are made…by creating one yourself! We'll discuss all the elements of exhibit design, and then create our own work to hang in the Community Gallery! Once we've hung and displayed our art, we'll create a title for our exhibit, write labels for our pieces, and more!
When: Saturday, January 17th, 1-3 p.m. & Saturday, January 31st, 1-3 p.m.
(These are separate events, not a two-part session.)
For: Creative people of all ages!
Cost: This event is free with regular admission.
(Children under 12: FREE, Seniors/Students: $3, Adults: $4)
RSVP is not required, but if you would like to bring a group to the event, please call ahead so that we have enough supplies. The work from each session will be hung in the gallery for two weeks, and open to the public for viewing. To schedule this program for a school or group, please contact Museum Programs Coordinator Brittany Wheeler (Brittany.Wheeler@oprhp.state.ny.us)
A CELEBRATORY FEBRUARY…
February marks Presidents Day, so help Philipse Manor Hall celebrate it! Something's cooking: Fairy butter? Peanut soup? 18th-century icing? Come sample a collection of presidential dishes! We'll have you feeling old: Take home a free picture of yourself dressed in Colonial clothing! If you're still feeling presidential, you can measure your height against that of previous presidents, and take a certificate home showing how you stack up! Bring your thinking cap: Take a presidential scavenger hunt in the house, and win a prize when you complete it! Take a lucky guess: Enter our Peanut Contest and win a prize! (There's an adult and child prize).
When: Sunday, February 15th, 12-4 p.m.
For: Families, kids and the young at heart!
Cost: This event is FREE!
THE MUSEUM'S TENTACLES…
What do Barbados, the Netherlands and Madagascar have in common? These countries, and many other locations, can be tied to the Philipse household, a household that once owned hundreds of thousands of acres of land, traded across many more miles, and achieved great status as one of the richest families in the colony of New York before the American Revolution. How do the geographic pieces fit? Join us for a geography lesson at the epicenter of this particular story: Philipse Manor Hall.
When: Friday, February 20th through Friday, February 27th at 1 p.m. daily
For: Lovers of geography, history, and the Philipse Family!
Cost: Regular admission. (Adults: $4, Seniors/Students: $3, Children under 12: FREE)
