Galvanic Folklore: Dance & Music inspired by Science June 23 and 25

Galvanic Folklore
-From the Accelerating Universe-
by Cori Kresge and Jeremy Tressler
AN EVENING OF DANCE AND MUSIC
INSPIRED BY SCIENTIFIC THEORIES AND EVOLUTIONARY FANTASIES
Wednesday and Friday, June 23 and 25 at 8pm

Galvanic Folklore
Working with the transfer of physical and phantom energy from body to body, we effect, refresh, exhaust and actualise each other and our environment. Tressler’s musical composition is a study in REM (sleep) Therapy techniques, alternating sounds from left to right and right to left as a way to stimulate and integrate the unconscious mind.
..
Primitive Feedback Loop
Through a creative process that fuses sound and movement by finding the resonance of breath, sound and tone within the body, two dancers discover how sound can be shaped by muscle, held in a joint, and thrown out into space or into each other.
.
Sapience I
Sapience is inspired by a theory on the fringe of evolutionary science that mankind evolved from Aquatic Apes! Five dancers search for some cellular memory of this evolutionary process in their own bodies. Sapience premiered in Bronxville, NY in November, 2009.
.
Sapience II
A solo of movement and amplified voice, Sapience II projects the “story” of Sapience into the future with another evolutionary fantasy. The dancer wears a military gas mask that has been transformed into an exotic bird or beast-like creature, turning a practical survival tool into a luxurious expression of our animal nature and possibly an integral part of our future selves

.
SPECIAL GUEST
Korhan Basaran & dancers will join the evening with two duets from his new production, K’s search for L, an evening-length dance theater work that uses movement, poetry, storytelling, and baroque music to explore the numerous pathways that lead to L. This newest work from Turkish choreographer Korhan Basaran is a fairytale of longing and hope that stirs our belief in honest human connection.
