Experience the finest Italian classical and Neapolitan music, played by one of the few remaining Italian concert bands in the tri-state area, at the 67th annual Yonkers Columbus Day Celebration Concert on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 2:00 PM.

Conductor Joseph Stamboni leads the thirty-piece Yonkers Concert Band in a free, two-hour performance at Saunders High School, 183 Palmer Road. The program includes the symphonic march “I Parassiti” by Pucci, highlights from II Trovatore and the overture to La Forza del Destino by Verdi, the Marcia Militare by Pistone, and the band’s signature piece: a unique sing-along of twelve Neapolitan songs, with words provided to the audience. The sing-along includes Santa Lucia, O Sole Mio, Vieni Sul Mar, Return to Sorrento, and other favorites.

The program also features soprano Jennifer S. Greene and tenor Dale Smith.
In celebration of the 150th birthday of composer Giacomo Puccini, Ms. Greene will sing “O Mio Babbino Caro” from Gianni Schicchi and Mr. Smith will sing “Che Gelida Manina” from La Boheme.

Ms Greene will also perform “Ah fors e lui - Sempre libera” from Verdi’s La Traviata and Mr. Smith will perform “M’appari” from Martha by Von Flotow. They then join talents to perform “Un di felice eterea” from La Traviata, marking the premiere performance of this love duet in our annual program.

The afternoon also includes an appearance by Miss Columbus 2008.

This performance is sponsored by the Yonkers Columbus Day Celebration Committee 2008 in cooperation with the City of Yonkers, Philip A. Amicone, Mayor, and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.

Saunders High School is located immediately east of the Saw Mill River Parkway at
